Focus on the environment
Oris has been focusing on the environment for the last years. It is quite visible in their exclusive and limited editions, like the ”Clean the Ocean”, launched in 2019. It focus on all the plastic that pollutes our oceans. On the back of the case, you can see a piece of recycled plastic... as a symbol of that something needs to be done – to solve this problem. This; ”Clean the Ocean” is a collaboration with: Pacific Garbage Screening, an organisation that is working on developing a floating platform, aimed to decrease the amount of plastic in the oceans. This kind of collaboration, in different areas, is an increasingly frequent thing at Oris, who is also known for their ”Movember” edition of some different models, a cooperation with the Movember Foundation.
Sustainability has been the focus for 2019. Through the lifestyle magazine: Dossier, Oris have joined forces with Rasmus Bjerngaard; an entrepreneur and co-founder of the company: Nextfood. Nextfood produces sustainable food and plants in a new way, compared to traditional agriculture. Ahead of us lays the problem of how to increase the amount of food harvested, to feed the ever growing population – without draining our resources... using (preferable) the same area, just producing more. In the video that follows, you can see more about the collaboration with Nextfood.
Oris Watches - Official Stockist of Oris Wristwatches
Watchia.com has been official internet-reseller (in the UK) of watches from Oris, since 2016.
Oris was founded in the Swiss city of Hölstein, in 1904, by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian. It was different times back then, when they made a deal with the mayor of the city, to produce watches there. It took only 7 years, for them to have more than 300 employees.. which required new houses and apartments to be built, to house all the watchmakers. With time, they outgrew their factory, and in 1925 they had 6 factories in total. 1938 was the year when Oris launched their first Pilot watch, that had a ”pointer calendar”-function and a bigger crown. That model is now recreated as:
, which is one of the most popular Oris-collections.Oris focuses only on automatic watches, and with their over 100 years of history of producing only Swiss Made watches, they have since long been experts. Just as important as their history, is the legacy that they will leave behind. We see many reissues of historic models, that are modernized – but also new and innovative models to a price that is well below the average from similar brands with similar quality. Oris is one of few existing, independent, Swiss brands, while most others are part of big groups or are owned by venture capitalists. This means that Oris aren't bound to anything else then get enough income to cover all expenses – and follow their vision.
